This Time Around, Eyes of the Nation Turning to South Dakota Early
Rapid City, SD – Volunteers with the South Dakota Campaign for Healthy Families are teaming up to kick-off a grassroots door-knocking effort this weekend. With out-of-state activists pushing another abortion ban onto the November ballot, South Dakotans are showing their strength in the first weeks of another campaign for women and families.
“When there is no chance of survival outside of the womb, why would anyone want to force a responsible woman and her family to bear a pregnancy to term?” asked Republican and former State Representative Jan Nicolay. “Just like last time, this ban prioritizes an activist agenda above our families’ health and safety. The reason why folks are spending the dog days of summer walking their neighborhoods and warning their neighbors that the ban is back is because families should be making these complex decisions – not the Government.”
With outreach just begun, teams of enthusiastic canvassers of all ages are expected to take their message to the streets of Rapid City this Saturday. The canvass is just the first of many outreach events that will take place in the upcoming months. Uniting volunteers is the shared sense that activists are ignoring the will of South Dakota’s voters, dividing our communities, and threatening to replace the carefully considered judgment of families with inflexible and vague Governmental authority.

Having an abortion is never an easy decision for a woman. It is a very personal, heartfelt choice that no one else can, or has the right to make.

The people who are promoting this measure admit they want to challenge Roe v. Wade and this is one step in that process.
