KEVN: Polls Released on State’s Proposed Abortion Ban
It’s the first time since the 2006 election that a scientific poll has been done on the subject of an abortion ban in South Dakota. In 2006, 58 percent of registered voters said they would vote yes for the ban if exceptions were added into the proposed law. Exceptions for rape, incest, or a woman’s health have been added this time around and the recent poll results show a close race. Conducted by Research 2-thousand for Daily Kos, 600 registered voters in South Dakota were asked “If you were voting today, would you vote YES, meaning the ban would take effect, or would you vote NO, meaning the ban would not take effect?” 42% said yes. 44% said no. 14% are undecided. Meanwhile in a poll done by Mason-Dixon Polling and Research for KELO and the Sioux Falls Argus Leader, 800 registered voters were asked “If you were voting on this Initiated Measure today, would you vote yes to change the state law or no to keep it as is?” The votes were split 50-50 between yes and no, while 12 percent answered undecided.
