SIOUX FALLS, SD – Today, the South Dakota Campaign for Healthy Families began airing a third television advertisement that highlights the unprecedented Government intrusion that will occur as a result of Initiated Measure 11.  Under the abortion ban, the Government will have control over certain personal and private medical decisions of South Dakota families.

“Proponents of Initiated Measure 11 would rather see these decisions made by big Government than by the women and families of South Dakota,” said Jan Nicolay, Co-Chair of the South Dakota Campaign for Healthy Families.  “The abortion ban would intervene between families and doctors and give the Government access to the medical records of South Dakotans. It would criminalize doctors and put the Government in charge of determining appropriate medical care,” said Nicolay.

The Campaign for Healthy Families is opposing the abortion ban because South Dakotans should be able to make their own medical decisions without Government meddling.  Though neutral in 2006, the South Dakota State Medical Association is also speaking out against Measure 11 as undue “Government interference” in the practice of medicine that would threaten doctors and patients.

The right of having an abortion pertains to more people then the teenager that didn’t use birth control.  We need to keep the abortions legal.

Why is this Measure 11 group trying to give the government more involvement in our lives.  VOTE NO!

I have yet to see where your mail send out comes up with the idea of turning medical records over to the state government. It is obvious you have one thing in mind from your mailing. It mentions nothing of abortions, the guts of the bill. Your mailing is misleading and shows the problem with this country from DC on down. Nobody will tell you the truth, only what they want you to hear. I would never lend support to an organization like yours. Tell all the truth!

The way the law is written, it’s clear that the next step is to outlaw the use of both emergency hormonal contraception and routinely prescribed oral contraceptives. The church is back to burning people who oppose them at the stake and trying to make their theology into law. These politically active churches are merely conservative PAC’s and need to be paying taxes.

God made a big point of creating man and giving him intelligence and a great brain with which to think and reason and said he was free to choose.  God & Jesus willingly and lovingly teach and guide us but they watch what our choices are and we have the right under God and should have the right under US Law each of us to make our our choices, but to do so we need complete information, booklets with all details.  With information we can be expected to make the correct decisions, but no one should have the right to tell me or anyone else how to choose or what to choose.  Each one is responsible for his own soul and not any one else’s.

Thank you, Dorothy, for saying that we should be able to make the choices about our own medical care with appropriate education and knowledge. Indeed, I believe that we have to make our own decisions about what we are to do with our health, be it ending a pregnancy or having a tooth capped or pulled. Do not take my ability to make an informed decision away from me! And do not take away the ability to even make a decision away! I live right next door to South Dakota. Lots of my friends live there, work there, shop there, doctor there, I don’t want to live and do business with a place that is banning abortion or taking away a family’s right to make decisions for themselves.

Having an abortion is never an easy decision for a woman.  It is a very personal, heartfelt choice that no one else can, or has the right to make.
